2 PhD positions available!

We are looking for 2 new members to join our increasing research group!

Two full-time PhD positions are available for a period of four (4) years.

The focus of our research is to seek novel insights into the cellular and molecular mechanism of cell fate acquisition and maintenance within endocrine pancreas in health and disease development. The research environment at the Center for Diabetes Research, University of Bergen is dynamic and stimulating, with strong traditions in genetics and cell biology. Both positions are fully funded and include international collaborations with a possibility of a research stage abroad. This work will be part of larger projects already financed by the Research Council of Norway FORSKER20 and Novo Nordic Foundation.

We are seeking dedicated PhD candidates with a strong interest in the cellular and molecular biology of pancreatic islets. The candidate will apply a combination of mouse genetics, omics (bulk and single-cell sequencing, proteomics), cellular and molecular biology methods (genetic cell tracing, genetic cell ablation, cell isolation and sorting, immunofluorescence staining and imaging) to analyse the endocrine cell-fate decisions in different model systems (mouse, patient and CRISPR generated cellular models).

Qualifications and personal qualities:

  • the applicant must hold a master`s degree or equivalent in life sciences (biology, biochemistry, biomedical research or similar);
  • necessary training will be provided by the group, however the following qualifications will be considered positively:
    • experience with basic cellular and molecular biology techniques, e.g. tissue sampling, nucleic acid isolations, PCR, cloning, etc.;
    • experience with flow cytometry and immunofluorescence staining; confocal imaging;
    • experience in work with experimental animals, including FELASA B approval;
  • the candidate should be able to work independently and in a structured manner, and have the ability to cooperate with others;
  • the applicant must be fluent in oral and written English.
